
Lehigh defeats Monmouth 4-3 to secure 2-0 start

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team captured its 15th straight home win with a 4-3 victory over visiting Monmouth Sunday inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks won the doubles point and claimed three singles victories to win their tenth straight match over Monmouth.
In doubles play, Lehigh's top team of senior Mark Goldberg and junior Mitchell Petersen started things off with a 6-2 win over Prezemyslaw Filipek and Chris Vieira. The Mountain Hawk pair of junior Ben Gilman and sophomore Jeremy Kochman followed with another 6-2 victory over Monmouth's Luke Adamus and Bee Kumthonkittikul to give Lehigh the first point of the match.
Gilman was defeated by Filipek to begin singles play, but Petersen took down Monmouth's Freddy Marcinkowski in straight sets (6-3, 6-1) to claim a Mountain Hawk point at No. 2 singles. Kochman was able to pull out a 6-5 victory in a tiebreak of the third set to win No. 4 singles against Ramy Bekheit.
Monmouth followed with a win at No. 5 singles to tie the match at three apiece, before freshman Ethan Bogard clinched the match for Lehigh. Bogard won 6-1, 6-2 over Monmouth's Jason Prezant to clinch the match for the Mountain Hawks.
The Mountain Hawks remain home next weekend to host Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday at 9 a.m. inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
