BETHLHEM, Pa. – The top seeded Lehigh softball team scored in each of the first two innings on its way to a 3-1 victory over fourth seeded Colgate on Thursday at Kaufman Field to open Patriot League Tournament play. With the victory, the Mountain Hawks extended their winning streak to 13 games matching the 2005 Lehigh squad and last year's Army team for the longest winning streak in league history.

The Mountain Hawks will play Army, who defeated Bucknell 3-2 in game two of the tournament. First pitch for game three between Lehigh and Army has been moved up to 10 a.m. Friday at Kaufman Field due to the threat of inclement weather.

“The first game in the tournament is always a critical one to get going in the right direction and you always want to be playing in the winner's bracket if you can,” Lehigh head coach Fran Troyan said. “Becca pitched a great game and offensively we were right where we needed to be.”

Sophomore Cassy Waggy broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single before an RBI groundout by senior Rosie Roessel put the Brown and White up 2-0 in the second inning. Senior Becca Bliss continued to dominate league opponents, retiring 12 of 14 Colgate batters that came to the plate before Tera Vaughn reached on an error to lead off the fifth inning. Vaughn stole second and eventually came home on an RBI single by Natalie Siedhof for the Raiders only run of the afternoon.

Lehigh got a run back in the bottom half of the inning after sophomore designated player Emily Bauscher drove in senior Liz Lucas with a sacrifice fly.

Bliss retired the Raiders in order in the seventh to earn her 20th win of the season. She allowed four hits, one run and struck out six in a complete game effort. Megan Carnase took the loss.

Waggy finished the contest 2-for-3 with an RBI while sophomore Emma Capetz and freshman Alexis Watanabe went 1-for-2 and each scored one run. Siedhof and Vaughn led the Colgate offense, as both of them went 1-for-3.
Prior to the tournament opener four Mountain Hawks were presented with Patriot League Awards. Freshman Morgan Decker received both Player and Rookie of the Year honors, while Bliss received the Pitcher of the Year Award. Senior Rosie Roessel earned Lehigh's fifth consecutive Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, while head coach Fran Troyan was named Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career and the second consecutive year.

Games four and five in the tournament have also been moved up an hour due to inclement weather and will begin at 12:30 p.m and 3 p.m. Friday. The championship round featuring game six and, if necessary, game seven is scheduled to begin at noon Saturday.
