BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team posted its five straight win over rival Lafayette with a dominant 7-0 sweep of the Leopards Friday on the Ulrich Varsity Courts. Seniors Matt Savran and Andrew Krentz led the way as the Mountain Hawks swept all three doubles matches and won all six singles matches in straight sets.

The Mountain Hawks improve to 13-4 overall and 2-1 in the Patriot League with the win, while Lafayette falls to 4-8, 1-3 in league matches. Lehigh also improved to 10-0 at home this season with one home league match remaining.
“Playing at home is a huge advantage, especially in this rivalry,” said Lehigh head coach Wouter Hendrix. “To sweep them this year is a great achievement. I give a lot of credit to our guys. Lafayette always plays us tough so this was a good performance for us.”

Doubles play saw Lehigh lose just eight games collectively en route to the sweep. The Mountain Hawks' top team of junior Mark Goldberg and sophomore Mitchell Petersen won 8-3 over Brandon Goldstein and Scott Gelbman. Savran and freshman Jeremy Kochman posted an 8-3 win over Brian Stefanowicz and Jake Lazer at No. 2 doubles, while Krentz teamed with sophomore Ben Gilman to win 8-2 over Gavin Studner and Chris Matturri at the third flight.

Savran made quick work of Studner at third singles, winning 6-0, 6-1 to put Lehigh up 2-0 in the match. His doubles partner, Kochman then brought the Mountain Hawks to 3-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lazer at No. 6 singles.

Krentz earned the clinching point in his final Lehigh-Lafayette match with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Stefanowicz at No. 4 singles.

“It's great to end on that kind of a note,” Krentz said. “We've beaten Lafayette every year I've been here, which as a Lehigh student is a tremendous thing to say. We were able to get the sweep so it was a great last Lehigh-Lafayette match to play.”

Lehigh closed out the remaining three matches in straight sets, with Gilman winning 6-2, 6-2 over Goldstein at the top flight, Petersen downing Gelbman 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Junior Timur Chernykh closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Chris Matturri.

Next up for the Mountain Hawks is a Sunday match at Patriot League rival Colgate, with first serves set for 2 p.m.
