BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh-Colgate game always seems to have significant Patriot League championship implications and this year is no exception. The Mountain Hawks and Raiders meet Saturday at Andy Kerr Stadium. A Colgate win gives the Raiders their second straight league title, while a Lehigh victory would set up a winner-take-all clash with rival Lafayette next Saturday at Goodman Stadium. Lehigh came back from its bye with a strong all-around performance in a 34-20 win over Holy Cross. Senior Keith Sherman rushed for a career-high 166 yards and scored three touchdowns, while freshman quarterback Nick Shafnisky came off the bench to lead the Mountain Hawks on four scoring drives. Lehigh's defense came up big with four sacks and two takeaways.
Â
Colgate improved to 4-6 using a strong first-half effort to defeat Lafayette 28-24 in Easton. The Raiders, led by 2012 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, quarterback Gavin McCarney, are looking for their first home win of the season. Colgate is 4-2 on the road but 0-4 at Andy Kerr Stadium in 2013.
          Â
Three weeks after a then career-high 157-yard, two touchdown effort against Georgetown, Sherman enjoyed an even better day against Holy Cross. Sherman carried 20 times for a career-high 166 yards and a touchdown and also caught touchdown passes of 19 and 11 yards. The senior captain's rushing touchdown came on a 60 yard scamper in the second quarter, the longest run of Sherman's career. Sherman's 20 rushes and 196 all-purpose yards were also career-highs.
Â
One of the major points of emphasis for Lehigh during its bye week was to improve its turnover differential. The Mountain Hawks were minus-11 in turnover margin through eight games but bounced back with two takeaways against Holy Cross and did not commit any turnovers themselves. Lehigh started fast against Holy Cross as senior Tyler Ward stripped Crusader QB Peter Pujals on the game's opening drive with junior Isaiah Campbell recovering for the Lehigh defense's first takeaway since the end of the Princeton game on September 21. Senior Nigel Muhammad added his first career interception in the third quarter. The Mountain Hawks turned the two takeaways into 14 points.
Â
Lehigh meets Colgate for the 52st time Saturday with the Raiders holding a 28-21 lead. There have also been two ties. Colgate captured last year's Patriot League championship showdown, snapping a two-game Lehigh win streak in the series. Lehigh head coach Andy Coen is 3-4 versus Colgate, including a 1-2 mark in Hamilton, N.Y.
Â
Saturday's game kicks off just after 1 p.m. from Andy Kerr Stadium in Hamilton, N.Y. Streaming video of the contest will be available through the Patriot League Network. Audio coverage will be available on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320, ESPNLV.com and Lehighsports.com, with pregame coverage beginning at noon.
Â
The Mountain Hawks will return home to Goodman Stadium to host Lafayette in the 149th meeting of college football's most-played rivalry, November 23 at 12:30 p.m.
