BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's golf team will wrap-up its fall schedule this weekend as the Mountain Hawks host the Lehigh Invitational presented by B Braun, Sunday and Monday at Saucon Valley Country Club. The Mountain Hawks will host seven teams for a two-day, 36-hole event, which will be played on Saucon Valley's Grace Course.
Saucon Valley Country Club, founded in 1920, has grown from 18 holes and a clubhouse to become one of the largest private clubs in North America. It encompasses 800 acres and consists of four courses, including the Weyhill Course, Old Course, Grace Course and Short Course. The Grace Course opened with nine holes in the fall of 1953 with the second nine opened for play in 1958. Named for Eugene Gifford Grace (Lehigh Class of 1899), longtime president and chairman of Bethlehem Steel, the Grace Course measures 7,051 yards from the championship tees and features greens nearly twice the size of those on the Old Course but without the severe contours.
The Lehigh Invitational will be the women's fifth and final event of the fall season. The Mountain Hawks had a tough start to the fall season but came on in their most recent event, finishing seventh out of 20 teams at the Rutgers Invitational. Lehigh also finished ninth at the Bucknell Invitational and competed at tournaments at Princeton and Yale.
Last year the Mountain Hawks finished in seventh place at the Lehigh Invitational with current senior Crystal Lee leading Lehigh with a 16th place individual finish. Junior Kelly Moylan shot consecutive rounds of 80 to finish in a tie for 23rd.
This year Lehigh will be joined by Boston University, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Harvard, Navy, Princeton and Seton Hall.
Action at the Lehigh Invitational presented by B Braun begins Sunday at 9:30 a.m. with the first 18 holes from the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. Monday's final round features a shotgun start with play also beginning at 9:30 a.m.
