
Mountain Hawks split season-opening tri-meet at West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Lehigh men's swimming and diving team opened its season by splitting a tri-meet with West Chester and Bloomsburg Friday at Graham Natatorium. The Mountain Hawks defeated the Huskies 169-54 but fell to the host Rams 134-107.

The Mountain Hawks showed strength in the sprint and distance freestyle events, en route to winning five of the 13 events on the docket.

Junior Danny Bennett won two of the five events, capturing the 1000 free in 9:40.30 and later winning the 500 free in 4:41.61.

Freshmen Jacob Moyar and Justin Kostelnik teamed for a 1-2 finish in the 200 yard butterfly, with Moyar taking top honors in 1:55.58.

Lehigh's fourth individual win came from freshman Jamal Willis, who won the 50 free in 21.07. Senior Chris Hoke finished third. In the 100 free the Mountain Hawks could not muster a win but captured spots two through five with Hoke pacing the group by finishing second. Freshman Justin White capped the strong sprinter showing finishing second in the 100 free.

The Mountain Hawks captured the final event of the meet as White, Willis and Hoke teamed with sophomore Matt Chrzanowski to win the 400 free relay in 3:10.65.

On the diving boards, junior Dan Bateman finished third in both the one and three meter events.

The Mountain Hawks will return to the pool on Saturday when they travel to Rider for a 1 p.m. meet.Â
