BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's swimming and diving team hung tough with a tough Army squad, but in the end the Black Knights proved too strong as the visitors came away with a 180-115 win Friday at Jacobs Pool. Lehigh was once again led by its core of sprinters but the Black Knights built an early lead and clinched the meet early, aided by a 34-4 edge on the diving boards.

The loss drops Lehigh to 3-2 overall and 2-1 against Patriot League foes.

Lehigh's top trio of sprinters delivered a sweep in the 50 yard freestyle, with junior Demetri Karedis taking top honors with a time of 20.93 seconds. Karedis was followed by junior Chris Hoke and senior Frank Cuzzola. Army captured the 100 free but Karedis and Cuzzola finished in a dead heat for second place.

Also winning an event for Lehigh was sophomore Sean Brant, who captured the 100 yard backstroke in 53.95 seconds.

Results for the men's 200 yard backstroke, 200 yard breaststroke and 500 yard freestyle were not immediately available.

Lehigh also picked up 31 late points as Army swam unscored in the 200 yard individual medley and the meet-ending 800 yard free relay.

The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Saturday January 26 when they visit Bucknell for a 1 p.m. meet.
