Mountain Hawks finish 12th at Yale Intercollegiate

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In its second event of the fall season, the Lehigh women's golf team finished in 12th place in the 16-team Yale Intercollegiate, which wrapped-up Sunday on the Course at Yale. The Mountain Hawks posted a three-day, 54-hole score of 958 (321-322-315), highlighted by a 315 on Sunday's final day of competition.
 
Individually, the Mountain Hawks were led by senior co-captains Chelsea Michalek and Ginette Schapira who both tied for 46th place at 237. Michalek fired a final round 77 to finish at 79-81-77, while Schapira's low round of 77 came on Saturday as she went 81-77-79.
 
Others who competed for the Mountain Hawks included sophomore Melanie Dickens, who tied for 52nd at 241 (81-81-79), junior Crystal Lee, who shot 243 (80-83-80) and tied for 54th, and sophomore Alyssa Scheyd who shot 267 (94-83-90) and finished in 83rd place.
 
Nova Southeastern University captured the team title with a score of 859 (292-281-286), good for a commanding 26-shot win over Penn State. Lehigh finished four strokes behind 11th place finisher Penn and eight ahead of Lee University, which placed 13th.
 
Individually, Nova Southeastern had the top three finishers, with Daniela Ortiz capturing medalist honors with her 207 (73-67-67), six strokes better than teammate Abbey Gittings.
 
The Mountain Hawks will return to the links at the Rutgers Invitational October 5-6 in New Jersey.
