ORLANDO, Fla. – Led by a second-place overall finish by sophomore Crystal Lee, the Lehigh women's golf team opened its spring season by capturing the team title at the Sunshine Spring Classic, which wrapped-up Friday at Rio Pinar Country Club. Lee shot a 36-hole score of 152 (75-77) helping Lehigh to a final team score of 623 (309-314) as the Mountain Hawks repeated as team champions with an eight shot win over Seminole Community College.
Others who competed for the Mountain Hawks were freshmen Melanie Dickens, who tied for 16th at 159 (80, 79) and Kelly Moylan who shot 176 (87-89) and tied for 47th.
Two other Mountain Hawks competed as individuals in the tournament. Sophomore Elizabeth Sander shot 175 (81, 94) and tied for 41st, while freshman Alyssa Scheyd shot 186 (98, 88) to finish in 56th place.
The key to Lehigh's team title was consistency as the Mountain Hawks put together two relatively even rounds of 309 and 314, while most of their main competition scored well in one round and struggled in the other. Seminole Community College shot 311 on Friday to move into second place at 631 (320-311), while Indiana State (333-309) and host Detroit-Mercy (313-329) tied for third.
Individual medalist honors went to Elia Folch Sola of Seminole CC, who shot 151 (74-77), edging Lehigh's Lee by one stroke.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the links when they compete at the C&F Bank Invitational in Williamsburg, Va. March 18-20.
