GREENSBORO, N.C. - On the eve of its NCAA Second Round showdown against Duke, the Lehigh men's basketball team took part in Media Day Thursday afternoon while also holding an open practice in front of fans at the Greensboro Coliseum. Juniors C.J. McCollum and Gabe Knutson along with senior Jordan Hamilton addressed the media prior to head coach Brett Reed's interview session. The team then hit the floor in front of hundreds of faithful fans, who gave the Mountain Hawks a rousing ovation as they entered and exited the floor.
Lehigh addressed its thoughts on Duke, the NCAA Tournament experience and more.
“Duke has a great history and has arguably one of the greatest coaches to ever coach college basketball,” said McCollum. “So it's definitely harder to be playing against them, but at the same time we won our conference tournament so we deserve to be here as well. We definitely look forward to the opportunity.”
“At the end of the day, I think we're a pretty good team,” said Reed. “I know that they're a good team. And you have to pretty much move beyond all those other things and just focus in the moment. Ultimately I don't care what the series history is; there's never been their team against this team. It might be their program against our program, but these two teams in essence have never matched up.”
Six Lehigh players are experiencing their second NCAA Tournament, including McCollum and Knutson who both started on the 2010 squad. Junior Holden Greiner along with seniors Hamilton, John Adams and Justin Maneri were also on the '10 team.
“Coming down here the first year, we were really excited to be here,” said Hamilton. “And now we're excited to be here to compete and hopefully win games. I think there's a difference in mentality in the approach to the game.”
