Knutson named Academic All-Patriot League for second straight year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - For the second straight season, Lehigh junior and All-Patriot League honoree Gabe Knutson has earned a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League Team, as announced on Monday. Knutson joins a pair from Bucknell and Lafayette to make up the five-member team. Knutson owns a strong 3.26 GPA as an Accounting major while excelling on the court as well.
Knutson along with Bucknell's Mike Muscala and Lafayette's Ryan Willen cracked the All-Patriot League Team for a second straight season; they're joined by Rob Delaney (Lafayette) and Bryson Johnson (Bucknell). Willen was named the Patriot League's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The Urbandale, Iowa native has been strong in the classroom, earning a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll while winning the Faculty Athletics Council Award. He's thrived in the leadership realm as a member of the Emerging Leaders program while also serving as a Student-Athlete Mentor.
On the court, Knutson is second on the Mountain Hawks in both scoring (12.1) and rebounding (5.5). He surpassed 1,000 career points on Feb. 11 against Colgate, becoming the second active Lehigh player to do so (along with classmate C.J. McCollum) and 30th in program history. Knutson finished with a season-high 21 points in that game.
Knutson has reached double-digit points in 20 games this season and 55 times for his career. He's shooting 80.5 percent from the free throw line while standing ninth in the Patriot League in scoring, sixth in rebounding, third in field goal percentage and eighth in free throw percentage.
Lehigh will host Colgate in the Patriot League Quarterfinals next Wednesday (Feb. 29) at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased on Lehighsports.com, over the phone (610-758-4263) or in-person at Stabler Arena, Monday-through-Friday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tickets cost $12 for adults and $6 for students/children/seniors.
