BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Freshman Peter Schwarzenberg was named the Patriot League Cross Country Male Rookie of the Week after his 16th place finish in the Paul Short Run men's Open 8K on Friday. Schwarzenberg powered through the mud and rain to obtain the 21st-best time of all freshman runners across all races and the sixth-best time among Lehigh performers.
"Peter ran aggressively throughout his race and put together an outstanding performance for a freshman," said head coach Todd Etters. "It's great to see him receive recognition for that and hopefully that's a sign of what he can perform at come the league meet."
The freshman competed in among a field consisting of 393 other competitors in the first 8K race of the day and improved on his time at the Lehigh vs. Lafayette Dual Meet by a total of 22 seconds (26:12).
Also garnering an award this week was junior co-captain Tyler Mueller as he was recognized by receiving Honorable Mention in the Patriot League's Cross Country Weekly Awards. Mueller finished 19th of 332 runners in the Gold Race at the Paul Short Run with a time of 24:31, pacing the Mountain Hawks to a ninth-place finish in the event, their best of the decade.
"Tyler has been consistently running some great races," said Etters. "I think he's anxious to get to the league meet and prove himself there as well."
Schwarzenberg, Mueller and the rest of the Mountain Hawks will return to action when the team travels to Louisville, Ky. to compete at the Pre-Nationals on October 13 beginning at 10 a.m.
