BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men's basketball team will appear on national television at least six times in 2011-12, and it could reach as many as 10. The Mountain Hawks will have four regular season games on CBS Sports Network along with two possible flex games and potential Patriot League Tournament contests. In addition, Lehigh's Dec. 22 nonleague tilt at Michigan State will air on ESPNU while its season opener at St. John's can be seen online at ESPN3.
“We're excited about the opportunity to compete against quality competition and have our games broadcast on national television outlets,” said Murray H. Goodman '48 Head Coach Brett Reed. “It's a wonderful opportunity for our fans and our basketball family to connect and engage with our performance throughout the year and take part in our quest towards championship contention.”
The Mountain Hawks' season opener at St. John's will stream online nationwide on ESPN3, with tipoff slated for 7 p.m. Lehigh's Dec. 22 tilt at Michigan State is set for 9 p.m. and will be shown on ESPNU. This marks the second straight season Lehigh will face a Big Ten foe after opening the 2010-11 campaign at Penn State.
As part of the Patriot League's television package, Lehigh will have at least four regular season games aired on CBS Sports Network, with the potential of four more with flex games and possible postseason contests. With those television games come some date and time changes from the original schedule announced last week.
Exactly one month after the Michigan State contest, Lehigh returns to national TV when it heads to archrival Lafayette for a Sunday afternoon showdown. The Jan. 22 contest will tip at 2 p.m. Four days later, the Mountain Hawks welcome Navy to Stabler Arena on CBS Sports Network. Lehigh will then be shown on the network on two consecutive Thursdays, Feb. 9 at American and the 16th at defending Patriot League Champion Bucknell.
The Mountain Hawks' home game against Lafayette on Feb. 18 and season-finale at Army could be shown if it's selected as the flex game. Every Patriot League contest will be eligible for those broadcast windows on Feb. 18 and 25. Last season, Lehigh saw both of its flex games picked up, against Lafayette and at Holy Cross. The selection of the flex contests will be made no later than 10 days prior to each of the competition dates.
In addition, both the Patriot League Semifinals and Championship Game on Mar. 3 and 7 will air live on CBS Sports Network.
CBS Sports Network is available across the country through cable and video providers and via satellite on DIRECTV Channel 613 and Dish Network Channel 152. For more information on how to get CBS Sports Network, go to www.cbssportsnetwork.com.
