BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's and women's basketball teams took part in preseason Media Day on Thursday as both defending Patriot League Champions draw near their season-openers next Friday. Both head coaches were in attendance along with senior captains Rob Keefer and Michael Ojo on the men's side along, and Kristen Dalton and Erica Prosser for the women.
Men's head coach Brett Reed leads the Mountain Hawks into action next Friday at Penn State while the women travel to Pittsburgh to take on Duquesne on Friday night and Robert Morris on Sunday. Reed's squad returns home on Nov. 15 to host Wagner at Stabler Arena.
"Thus far, one of the biggest strengths that has come through is the unity of this team," said Reed. "We were able to win a championship last season due to teamwork and unselfishness and those characteristics are carrying forward as we head into this season.
"Credit [sophomore] C.J. McCollum for his humility and his ability to be accepting of his teammates," Reed continued. "That teamwork, that team aspect and that unselfishness is a benchmark for Lehigh basketball that brings an exciting brand of basketball to the court."
The Patriot League's Preseason Player of the Year, McCollum highlights a strong list of returnees which also includes Ojo and sophomore Gabe Knutson. The women are led by Prosser, a preseason All-League honoree and 2009 Patriot League Player of the Year.
"Our team has been working very hard throughout our preseason and is beginning to come together as a team from a group of individuals when we started five weeks ago," said women's head coach Sue Troyan. "This group is extremely competitive in everything they do and possesses a tremendous work ethic in how they approach practice, I know they are looking forward to the opportunity to play against outside competition.
"The beginning of our season presents some competitive challenges with a very demanding schedule on the road," she continued. "But this is a team that is looking forward to those challenges and will benefit from them over the long run of the entire season."
