PRINCETON, N.J. – Freshman Ashley Quigley and sophomore Rebecca Bliss combined on a five-hitter as Lehigh blanked Princeton 4-0 in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday at Class of 1895 Field. A late inning Mountain Hawks rally fell short in the nightcap as the Tigers held on for a 3-2 win. With the split Lehigh now stands at 17-15 on the season.

The Mountain Hawks struck first in the top of the second inning of game one on a two-out, bases loaded, two-run single through the right side scored junior Jen Colquhoun and senior Carly Potock.

Lehigh extended its lead to 3-0 in the fourth when freshman Kristin Taft singled up the middle and then scored on a two-out double to right center by senior Alex Cueva.

Colquhoun capped a 3-for-3 game in the opener with her first home run of the season, a solo shot to left, with one out in the top of the seventh inning.

The four runs were plenty for Lehigh's pitching tandem as Quigley threw five scoreless innings, allowing two walks and five hits while striking out one before giving way to Bliss who tossed two scoreless, hitless innings to earn her second save of the season. Quigley earned the win and improves to 7-8 on the season. Alex Peyton took the loss for Princeton allowing three runs on seven hits in five innings for the Tigers.

In game two Lehigh out-hit Princeton 7-5, but the Mountain Hawks left seven runners on base.

Peyton gave the Tigers (11-15) a 1-0 lead with a first inning RBI double that scored Nicole Ontiveros. Princeton added two more runs in the third as Kelsey VandeBergh doubled home Candace Button and then came around to score on a fielding error by Colquhoun on a ball hit by Peyton.

Lehigh had its best early chance to score when the Mountain Hawks loaded the bases with two out in the fourth but Liza Kuhn fanned sophomore pinch hitter Jacqi Kennelly to end the threat.

Sophomore Liz Lucas put Lehigh on the scoreboard as she led off the sixth inning with a home run to left field, her team-leading sixth of the season.

Cueva led off the top of the seventh with a single but was erased when Wood reached on a fielder's choice. Wood then stole second and scored on a Taft infield single to cut the deficit to 3-2. Unfortunately for the Mountain Hawks, Taft was thrown out at second on the play, and Kuhn struck out junior Julie Fernandez looking to end the game.

Kuhn allowed two runs on seven hits to earn her sixth win of the season for Princeton. She walked two and struck out nine. Freshman Kelsey Lee started for Lehigh and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in three innings, but took the loss as she falls to 2-4. Lee struck out three and did not walk a batter, before giving way to Bliss who threw three more scoreless, hitless innings.
The Mountain Hawks will resume Patriot League play on Friday when they host rival Lafayette in a doubleheader at Kaufman Field. First pitch for game one is set for 2:30 p.m. from Kaufman Field and all of Friday's action will be broadcast at Lehighsports.com.
