Mountain Hawks earn strong showing at Lafayette Invitational

EASTON, Pa. – The Lehigh track and field team competed in the Lafayette Invitational on Saturday afternoon on the Lafayette campus. With 143 total points, the men's team took first place. The women's team finished 140 points, earning them a second place finish.
On the women's side, Khaaleedah Smith's efforts were a highlight in running events for Lehigh as she posted three top three finishes on the day. Smith started her day with a third place finish in the 100 meter dash, marking a time of 12.60 seconds. Smith also took third place in the 400 meter dash, clocking in at 1:00.62. Smith also joined Kristin Slotnick, Melissa Knapp and Alexandra Doersam in the 4x100 medley relay, as the group took first place in that event with a time of 49.41 seconds.
In addition to her efforts in the 4x100, Slotnick also had a strong day in her other running events. She finished a half-second behind her teammate Smith in the 100 meter dash (12.66), good for fourth place. Slotnick also took third place in the 100 meter dash, earning a time of 25.71 seconds.
Lehigh had a 4, 5, 6 finish in the 800 meter run event, as Lauren Pietrosh (2:18.16), Elizabeth McManus (2:20.18), and Kathleen Ryan (2:21.70) finished in that respective order. In the steeplechase event, Andrea Mascaro finished third with a time of 11:34.61. In the hurdle events, Brooke Astor finished third in the 100 meter (14.96) and fourth in the 400 meter (1:06.02).
In the field events, Lehigh had five first place finishers. Doersam continued her strong day as she took first in the long jump event with a leap of 5.55 meters. Rebecca Duhamel took first place in two events, earning the crown in the shot put (12.57) and discus throw (42.25). Tiffany Penge took first in the triple jump (11.04) and Emily Settle captured the hammer throw title (50.39). E'Lana Lemon and Jimil Ataman finished in second and third behind Settle.
On the men's side, the Mountain Hawks earned two first-place finishes in the track events. Devin Monroe took first place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.67 seconds. Lehigh's other first-place finish came in the steeplechase, where Lyle O'Brien earned a time of 9:37.46 for the victory.
The Mountain Hawks had a really strong day in the field events. Over in the high jump, Patrick Ciez hit the IC4A qualifying mark of 2.04 meters, which also earned him first place in that event. His teammate Stephen Rumizen finished right behind in second place of that event (1.94).
Lehigh also had an IC4A qualifier in the javelin throw, as Kevin Steimle posted a distance of 60.82 meters, over two meters greater than the qualifying mark. In the long jump, Stephen Tutunjian took first place (7.00) and in the triple jump, Richard Somiari also earned a first place finish. Christopher Buck earned two second place finishes in the shot put (15.18) and in the hammer throw, where he also posted a personal record (49.93).
The Mountain Hawks will head back to Easton next weekend for the Lafayette Dual.
