HAMILTON, N.Y. – After handing Colgate its first league loss on Saturday, the Lehigh dropped a pair of high scoring games to the Raiders on Sunday, as the Mountain Hawks fell 13-7 and 8-5 at Eaton Street Field. Sophomore Liz Lucas doubled in each game to break the Lehigh single-season record but the Raiders tallied 21 runs on 30 hits to sweep the doubleheader and win two of three in the series.
The losses snap Lehigh's five game win streak and drop the Mountain Hawks to 22-17 overall and 8-3 in the Patriot League, while Colgate is now 19-15 and alone in first place in the league standings at 10-1.
The Mountain Hawks, the designated home team on Sunday, scored the first two runs of the opener on a third-inning Audra Wood RBI single, but Colgate answered by putting up eight runs in the top of the fourth inning off freshman Ashley Quigley, propelled by a Natalie Siedhof grand slam and a three-run single by Tera Vaughn.
Lehigh scored five times in the next two innings to climb within one at 8-7, but the Raiders scored five times in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach. Senior Carly Potock and sophomore Rosie Roessel had two hits and two RBI apiece for the Mountain Hawks, who finished with nine hits. Lucas tied the doubles record, previously held by three players, with a second inning leadoff two base hit to right center.
Quigley took the loss for Lehigh allowing eight runs on eight hits in four innings as she falls to 9-10. Courtney O'Connell earned the win for Colgate allowing seven runs on nine hits in five innings.
The Raiders used the long ball to go ahead for good as Colgate scored four runs in the top of the fourth on two-run home runs by Vaughn and Emmie Dolfi.
Lehigh got a run back on a solo home run by junior Jen Colquhoun, but after a 15 minute rain delay Colgate put the game away with a run in the top of the seventh.
Colgate out-hit Lehigh 16-5 in the nightcap, with Rachel LeCoq earning the win after allowing five runs in four innings of work.
Sophomore Becca Bliss went 6.2 innings for Lehigh and suffered the loss allowing five runs on 13 hits.
The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Wednesday when they host Hofstra in a doubleheader at Kaufman Field. First pitch for game one is set for 3 p.m. with audio coverage online at Lehighsports.com.
