KISSIMMEE, Fla. – It took until the seventh game of the season but Lehigh finally got into the win column on Sunday as the Mountain Hawks split their two games Sunday on their opening day at the Rebel Spring Games. Lehigh dropped its first game of the day 6-0 to Loyola (Ill.) but bounced back with a 6-3 win over South Dakota in game two. With its first win Lehigh is now 1-6 on the young season.

In Sunday's second game freshman Kelsey Lee earned the win in the pitcher's circle striking out three Coyotes while allowing zero earned runs. Lehigh's offense did most of its damage in the third inning as the Mountain Hawks scored five runs. Junior Jen Colquhoun provided a spark with two RBI in the frame.

Complete stats of the South Dakota game will be posted Monday when they became available.

Earlier in the day, Loyola's Brittany Gardner shut down the Mountain Hawk bats as she went the distance on a two-hit shutout, with three walks and five strikeouts. The Ramblers scored two runs in the first, third and fifth innings, with Lauren Arceneaux going 2-for-2 with two RBI. Lehigh mustered just a third-inning single from junior Tenley Halaquist and a seventh-inning double from Colquhoun.

Freshman Ashley Quigley started in the circle, allowing four earned runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings. She walked one and struck out two.

Lehigh will continue action at the Rebel Spring Games on Monday with two more games. The Mountain Hawks will face Detroit Mercy at 9 a.m. and Indiana State at 11 a.m.
