BRONX, N.Y. – In its final tune-up before Patriot League play begins this weekend, Lehigh saw its five-game winning streak come to an end as the Mountain Hawks were swept by a tough Fordham squad in a doubleheader Wednesday at Bahoshy Field. Chelsea Plimpton threw a three-hitter as Fordham took game one 9-1 and then Jen Mineau followed with a two-hit shutout as the Rams won the nightcap 9-0. Both games were decided in five innings.
Freshman Lizzy Odren drove in the only run of the day for the Mountain Hawks with a fifth-inning RBI single in game one. The losses drop Lehigh back to .500 at 13-13 while Fordham, a NCAA Regional Finalist in 2010, improves to 20-13.

In game one, Fordham pounded out 13 hits while capitalizing on three Lehigh errors. The Rams opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the second by way of a fielder's choice and a Lehigh error.

Seven different Fordham players had one RBI in game one, with five Rams: Samantha Pellechio, Gabby Luety, Jamie LaBovick, Beckah Wiggins and Meghan Shager, each providing two hits. Fordham added four more runs in the third, and a run in the fourth on a Chelsea Palumbo RBI double to go up 8-0.

Plimpton retired the first nine Mountain Hawks in order to open the game, before junior Audra Wood led off the fourth inning with a single up the middle. Lehigh showed some resiliency down by eight, as senior Carly Potock laced a one-out double to right field in the fifth and then scored the Mountain Hawks only run of the day on Odren's single to right. Lehigh prolonged the game for another half inning before Luety ended game one with an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth.

Plimpton struck out six and walked none in five innings to earn her tenth win of the season, while sophomore Rebecca Bliss took the loss for Lehigh, allowing seven runs (five earned) on eight hits in three innings as she falls to 6-3.

In game two, Lehigh faced the daunting task of hitting against Mineau, a 2010 All-America selection who struck out 11 Mountain Hawks and allowed just two hits: an infield single by freshman Jess Long in the third inning; and a single to center by junior Julie Fernandez in the fourth.

LaBovick, Wiggins and Jessica Crowley had two RBI apiece for Fordham, who struck for five first-inning runs against freshman Ashley Quigley, before adding three in the second and one in the third. The Rams finished with 11 hits in the nightcap.

Quigley allowed nine runs on ten hits in three innings, striking out one and walking three as she falls to 5-7. Mineau improves to 9-5 for Fordham.
