HARRISONBURG, Va. – Sophomore Liz Lucas belted a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to lead Lehigh to a 4-3 win over Binghamton Friday in the opening game of the JMU Days Inn Invitational at Veterans Memorial Park. The Mountain Hawks had to settle for a split on the day as they were limited to two hits in a 4-0 loss to host James Madison. Lehigh is now 6-9 on the season.

In game one on Friday, Lehigh took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning as junior Julie Fernandez reached on an error with the bases loaded, scoring Tenley Halaquist in the third inning; and senior Alex Cueva doubled home junior Audra Wood with two outs in the fifth.

Binghamton rallied to score twice in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. The Bearcats placed runners on second and third with one out. A wild pitch by freshman Kelsey Lee scored the first Binghamton run before Colleen Whitager brought home the tying run with a sacrifice fly to right.

The game went to extra innings, with the international tiebreaker rule implemented. Sophomore Hana Harrison was placed on second base, but instead of bunting the go-ahead run over, Lucas hit her third home run of the season to put the Mountain Hawks up 4-2.

The Bearcats put a run across in the bottom of the eighth, but with the tying and go-ahead runs on base, Lee got Jessica Phillips to ground back to the circle to end the game.

Lee picked up her second win of the season (2-2) allowing three runs on four hits while walking one and striking out five. Kristen Emerling went the distance for Binghamton and took the loss.

Lehigh out-hit Binghamton 8-4 in the opener with Cueva and sophomore Rosie Roessel registering two hits apiece.

In the second game, the Lehigh bats were held in check by Olivia McPherson, who went the distance on a two-hitter, walking three and striking out four. Freshmen Lizzy Odren and Kristin Taft accounted for Lehigh's offense with singles in the fourth and fifth innings.

James Madison scored three runs in the third inning on an RBI ground out and back-to-back RBI doubles. The Dukes added a run in the fourth on a solo home run by Caitlin Sandy.
Freshman Ashley Quigley went the first four innings in the circle, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits, as she falls to 2-6. Sophomore Rebecca Bliss followed up with two innings of scoreless relief.
