Track teams wrap up weekend events

BETHLEHEM, PA.– In its sixth and seventh events of the season, the Lehigh men's and women's track and field teams completed a solid weekend of competition at the Covert Classic and the New Balance Invitational in New York, N.Y.
At the New Balance Invitational in New York, Katherine Pierce placed fifth in the 5000 meter run, posting a time of 17:24.30. The Mountain Hawks also placed well in the 500 meter dash, as Elizabeth McManus posted a 1:17.09 11th place finish and Kathleen Ryan slated a 34th place finish with a time of 1:20.64. In the 1000 meter run, Lehigh's Jessica Kendzor placed 16th with a time of 2:55.47 while Lauren Pietrosh finished 25th with a 2:56.90 timing. Alexis Weiner finished strong in the 3000 meter run, marking a time of 10:23.07, good for ninth.
Over in the men's side of the New Balance Invitational, Evans Kosgei took third in the 5000 meter run, clocking a time of 14:29.09. Evan Flach posted a time of 8:24.65 in the 3000 meter run, placing him at eighth.
Back in Bethlehem at the Covert Classic, the Mountain Hawks had strong finishes in many events. In the men's track events, Makura Compton had a first place finish in the 500 meter dash, clocking a time of 1:08.68. Seth Robinson also had a first place finish for Lehigh in the 400 meter dash, scoring a 52.27 finish time.
 
In the men's field events, Lehigh was winners in four events. Patrick Ciez had a 2.02 meter high jump to win that event. Over in the long jump, Stephen Tutunjian finished first with a leap of 6.85 meters. Tutunjian was also crowned champion in the triple jump, with a distance of 14.72 meters. Christopher Buck also won the weight throw event, launching at a distance of 14.40 meters.
On the women's side, Danielle Albergo finished first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.35. In the 1000 meter run, Julia Perry had a time of 3:04.52 to place first in that event. Megan Hetzel was champion in the 3000 meter run, clocking a time of 10:47.90.
In the field events, Tiffany Penge won the triple jump while E'Lana Lemon won the weight throw.
The Mountain Hawks will next participate in the Armory Collegiate Series on Feb. 12. The Patriot League Championships are slated for February 18.
