McKnight wins season’s final Patriot League Rookie of the Week award

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following a stellar all-around week which included 26 points, 12 rebounds and six assists, Lehigh freshman point guard Mackey McKnight has earned the Patriot League's final Rookie of the Week honor, as announced on Monday. The award is McKnight's third of the season and first since Dec. 27. This comes only hours after learning he cracked the Patriot League All-Rookie team.
McKnight finished the week with 26 points on 9-of-20 (45 percent) shooting. He began on Wednesday at Bucknell, scoring 12 points while grabbing a career-high six rebounds. He then added 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting at Holy Cross on Saturday. McKnight also dished four assists and tied a career-high six rebounds for the second straight game. He finished with four “three-point plays” – two of the traditional kind and two of the old-fashioned variety.
McKnight continues to own one of the nation's best assist/turnover ratios. He leads Lehigh with 109 assists while his 3.9 per game stand fourth best in the league. McKnight is also just outside the top 10 in school history for assists in a season.
The Houston, Texas native is fourth on the Mountain Hawks in scoring (7.9), led by 11 double figure scoring games.
Lehigh finished the season with a Patriot League leading 10 weekly awards. Sophomore C.J. McCollum garnered a league-record six players of the week while McKnight won rookie of the week three times and fellow freshman Anthony D'Orazio once. Navy is next up with eight weekly honors.
The Mountain Hawks now look ahead to the Patriot League Quarterfinals on Wednesday vs. Navy at Stabler Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Tickets are now on sale and may be purchased on Lehighsports.com or by calling the ticket office at (610) 7LU-GAME.
