Lehigh completes first day at Patriot League Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Day one is complete at the 2011 Patriot League Championships with Lehigh's men's swimming and diving team in fourth place and the Mountain Hawk women in sixth after one day at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium. Two Lehigh individuals reached the top flight finals in individual events while sophomore Alex Aboud won the B final in the men's 200 individual medley.
Aboud had the best performance for Lehigh in an event where the Mountain Hawks comprised five of the eight competitors. He posted a time of 1:52.35 in the finals to win the B final and finish ninth overall. Junior Kevin Shoemaker, freshman Connor Cackovic, junior Angelo DiGiacinto and sophomore Tyler Lareau finished in 13th through 16th places respectively.

Freshman Chris Hoke qualified for the finals in the 50 free and finished seventh with a time of 20.86 seconds. Sophomore Frank Cuzzola finished 13th in the same event, while freshman Matt Alford finished 14th.
On the diving boards, junior Connor Styles made the finals in the men's three meter, finishing seventh with 286.65 points.
Lehigh's other men's individual scorer was junior Chris Toth who finished 11th in the 500 free with a time of 4:33.38.
In the relays, the Mountain Hawk men took fifth in the 200 free relay with Hoke, Alford, Lareau and Cuzzola posting a time of 1:22.97, while in the 400 medley relay Lareau, Aboud, Hoke and senior Billy Dunne teamed to take fourth with a time of 3:23.82.
Lehigh's women were led by the 400 medley relay team of sophomores Brooke Smalley and Emily DiDonato, freshman Meredith Bayer and junior Paola Simon who placed third with a time of 3:55.39.
Simon teamed with seniors Allison Montanye and Kristen Keenan and junior Alena Pollitt to finish sixth in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:37.50.
Individually, Pollitt finished 15th in the 50 free with a time of 24.48 seconds, while junior Priscilla Barletta took 16th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.19.
In the team races the Navy men are out to a large lead over Bucknell, while Colgate's women lead the Midshipmen by 27 points.
The Patriot League Championships continue Friday from Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium with preliminaries set for 10:30 a.m. and finals set for 6 p.m.
