Karedis, Shoemaker lead Lehigh on final day of Princeton Invite

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's swimming and diving team wrapped up a successful weekend at the Princeton Invitational Saturday at DeNunzio Pool. Sophomore Demetri Karedis won the 100 yard freestyle while senior Kevin Shoemaker posted a pair of runner-up finishes as Lehigh competed well with Princeton, Georgetown and TCNJ.
 
One day after setting a school record in the 50 free, Karedis won the 100 free in 45.91 seconds and added a seventh place finish in the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:45.89. Shoemaker added runner-up finishes in both the 100 and 200 yard butterfly events, finishing in 51.51 in the 100 and 1:53.86 in the 200.
 
Junior Alex Aboud led Lehigh in the 100 breast placing sixth with a 1:00.14 effort. Freshman Jack Lorentzen took sixth in the 200 breast, finishing in 2:16.23.
 
Freshman Danny Bennett led Lehigh in the 1650 free (sixth, 16:34.54) and the 400 IM (seventh, 4:12.82). Classmate Sean Brant also led the Mountain Hawks in two events, finishing 13th in the 100 back (54.93) and seventh in the 200 back (1:56.56).
 
In the relays, Shoemaker and Karedis teamed with freshman Martin Kendig and sophomore Chris Hoke finished second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:35.88. In the 800 free relay, Aboud and Hoke teamed with David Pennenga and Frank Cuzzola to finish fourth, while a Lehigh team also finished fourth in the 400 free relay, with Shoemaker, Pennenga, Lorentzen and Cuzzola forming Lehigh's top team.
 
Lehigh's divers competed in the three meter completion on Saturday with senior Connor Styles finishing sixth and freshman Dan Bateman taking eighth place.
 
The Mountain Hawks will be back in the pool on Friday when they face rival Lafayette. The meet is slated for a 6 p.m. start from Lehigh's Jacobs Pool.
