LEWISBURG, Pa. – After struggling the night before, the Lehigh volleyball team rebounded with a straight-set victory at Bucknell (25-19, 25-19, 25-20). The Mountain Hawks were led by junior Taylor Poole and sophomore Amanda Clark whom each had nine kills while senior Angelika Kopacz added eight kills.

“Our girls didn't want to have another night like last night so they took it upon themselves to have a complete turnaround offensively,” said head coach Bob Bertucci. “Amanda gave us another good game and Taylor also had a very good game today.”
Lehigh (10-7, 2-2 PL) got out to a quick start in the opening set building a 10-5 lead early. Bucknell (4-9, 1-3 PL) came back to tie the set at 16-16 before the Mountain Hawks got over the hump and put the set away going on a 9-3 run. Lehigh had 10 kills to just three errors in the set.
It was the same story in the second set as Lehigh held the early edge before Bucknell evened up the set. With the Mountain Hawks holding just a two-point advantage 19-17, Lehigh scored three straight points, two coming on Clark kills, en route to a 25-19 set victory. The Mountain Hawks had 16 kills and eight errors in the set while Bucknell had nine kills and seven errors.
After the first two sets, Lehigh had just 11 errors. In Friday night's straight-set loss to Colgate, the Mountain Hawks had 24 after two sets.
“We did a much better job taking care of the ball on our side,” said Bertucci. “We kept building confidence in the match.”
In the third set, Lehigh used that confidence to build a 20-14 lead en route to the final set victory. The Mountain Hawks had 15 kills while Bucknell had nine in the set.
Poole was nine-for-11 with no errors for a stellar .818 attack percentage. Poole, Clark and Kopacz combined for 26 of the team's 41 kills while sophomore Paige Kruse and freshman Jade Van Streepen added six kills apiece. The Mountain Hawks also took advantage of eight Bison service errors.
Bucknell had 30 kills and was led by Jessica Serrato who had a team-high seven kills while Katie Baumgarten added six kills.
Lehigh will look to ride the momentum from its win when it returns home to host rival-Lafayette Friday, October 7th at 7 p.m. at the Leeman-Turner Arena. The Mountain Hawks swept the Leopards in both matches last year by a combined 6-1 score.
