Mountain Hawks complete competition at Navy Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, MD. – In its third event of the season and first of the spring semester, the Lehigh track and field teams enjoyed a solid night of competition Saturday at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md. The men's team finished in fourth place out of six teams, while the women's team finished in seventh place out of eight teams. Although the Mountain Hawks did not have any individual first place finishes, both the men's and women's squads had some top three finishes.  
  
Lehigh was joined at the meet by Navy, American, Maryland East Shore, Mount Saint Mary's and UNC-Wilmington in men's competition. In women's competition, Lehigh was joined by those five teams plus James Madison and Bowie State. On the women's side sophomore Brittany Pietrosh finished third for Mountain Hawks in the 1000 meter run at a time of 3:00.59. Pietrosh was followed by teammates of junior Alexandra Neville and sophomore Julia Perry.
 
In the 5000 meter event, junior Katherine Pierce led a top-three Lehigh finish with a time of 18:04.88.  Sophomore Victoria Bedard finished two spots behind, posting 18:25.77.
In the field events, freshman Rebeca Duhamel finished tied for fourth place in the shot put, posting a distance of 12.27 meters. Over in the 20 lb. weight throw, sophomore E'Lana Lemon placed fourth with a distance of 15.7 meters.
On the men's side senior Niall Buckley had an impressive second place finish in the 800 meter run, clocking a time of 1:55.28. Senior Evans Kosgei had a strong day as well, finishing in second place in the 5000 meter run with a time of 14:57.10. The Mountain Hawks also finished third the 4X400 relay, as a team of junior Ifeanyi Edochie, junior Kyle Forrest, senior Makura Compton and freshman John Ciaverdelli had a 3:28.79 time.
Over in the 200 meter dash, sophomore Devin Monroe posted a 22.5 second time, placing him fifth. Senior Kyle O'Connor finished fifth in the 1000 meter run, scoring a time of 2:29.61.
In the field events, junior Stephen Rumizen posted 1.99 meter high jump, which was good for second place in the field. Junior Stephen Tutunjian also had a second place, posting 14.32 meter triple jump.
The Mountain Hawks will then host the Lehigh Multi and Invite beginning on January 21. Following that, Lehigh will host its final indoor meet: the Covert Classic on February 5.
