Miller earns PL Rookie of the Week laurels

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Freshman Jimmy Miller of the Lehigh men's cross country team was named the Patriot League Male Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday. Miller placed second at the Lehigh-Lafayette Dual on Saturday with a time of 26:53.6 as the Mountain Hawks defeated the Leopards for the 12th straight dual meet.

“I've been completely impressed with Jimmy,” Lehigh head coach Todd Etters said. “This is not the first good race he's had. He's done a great job all season and he is deserving of the award.”

Miller was one of nine Lehigh runners to cross the finish in the top 10 on Saturday in Easton as the Brown and White earned a 17-46 victory. Senior Evans Kosgei, who earned Patriot League Honorable Mention honors on Monday, took first overall, while junior Evan Flach placed third. Senior Andrew Jervis finished fifth, senior Kyle O'Connor took sixth, freshman Tyler Mueller placed seventh, junior Dan Soltan took eighth, senior Bryan Herbst finished ninth and freshman Russell Vignali crossed the line in 10th.

Prior to this weekend, Miller was also Lehigh's top-finishing freshman at the Iona Meet of Champions on September 18. The Ijamsville, Md. native turned in an impressive performance at the season-opening Lehigh Invitational as well, placing fifth overall as Lehigh finished first out of eight teams.

In addition to Miller and Kosgei, junior Katherine Pierce of the Lehigh women's cross country team also earned Patriot League Honorable Mention honors after finishing second overall at the Lehigh-Lafayette Dual.

Miller and the rest of the Lehigh cross country team will be back in action on Friday, October 1 when they host the 37th-annual Brooks-Paul Short Run. The competition will open with collegiate races throughout the morning and continue with high school events into the late afternoon. Over 220 colleges and high schools from around the country are scheduled to compete.
