BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's cross country team was tabbed to finish fifth in the Patriot League in the annual preseason poll, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. The Mountain Hawks garnered 60 points in the poll, while Navy was picked as the preseason favorite with 97 points and 13 first-place votes.Voted on by the league's coaches, the poll picked American to finish second with 86 points and three first-place votes, while Army (64 points) took third and Bucknell (63 points) placed fourth. Holy Cross, Colgate and Lafayette rounded out spots six through eight, respectively.
The Mountain Hawks took fourth place at the 2009 Patriot League Championship and will return a nucleus of talented runners this fall, including senior Evans Kosgei, a 2009 All-Region selection. Senior Steve Sample also returns after notching a pair of first-place finishes last season, while senior Andrew Jervis will look to build off an impressive campaign in which he registered four top-30 finishes.
Lehigh, which enters the season ranked No. 15 in the Mid-Atlantic Region, will open the season on Friday with the Lehigh Invitational at the Goodman Campus Course at 6:15 p.m. The Brown and White will also host the annual Paul Short Run on October 1.
