Lehigh begins action at ECAC/IC4A championship

PRINCETON, N.J. – Lehigh opened action at the 2010 ECAC/IC4A Outdoor championships on Friday as four student-athletes competed, including Catherine Bigelow, Katherine Pierce, Steve Sample and Evan Flach. Bigelow took part in four events in the heptathlon, while Pierce and Sample ran in the 10K and Flach took part in the 5K.
In the heptathlon Catherine Bigelow currently sits in 15th place with 2642 points after competing in four events on Friday, including the 100 hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 meters. The senior completed the 100 hurdles in a time of 15.38 seconds, which was good for 11th place, and she followed that up with by clearing 5’1” in the high jump. Bigelow then finished her day with a throw of 30’0 ¼” in the shot put and a time of 27.17 seconds in the 200 meters.
In the men’s 10K Steve Sample finished in a time of 31:55.07, which put him in 24th place, while Katherine Pierce completed the women’s 10K in 37:59.79 to finish in 16th place. In the men’s 5K Evan Flach placed 12th in section one and 25th overall as he crossed in a time of 14:43.15
Action from New Jersey continues on Saturday beginning at 9:00 AM. Lehigh will have competitors in the heptathlon, men’s long jump, men’s and women’s pole vault, men’s and women’s 4x800 relay prelims, men’s 4x100 relay prelims, and the women’s hammer.
