PL announces track and field academic honor roll

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Forty eight Lehigh student-athletes were named to the 2010 Patriot League Track and Field Academic Honor Roll, announced Thursday. Leading the way for the Mountain Hawks were the trio of seniors Matt Tedrick and Kaitlin Grimm and sophomore Catherine Tobiasen, who earned a perfect 4.00 grade point average for the semester. To be eligible for the honor roll, a student-athlete must obtain at least a 3.2 GPA and participate in one of the league’s winter or spring championship sports.
Grimm, an accounting major, and Tobiasen, who is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences, were two of 28 Lehigh female student-athletes to garner Honor Roll accolades. Grimm and Tobiasen were also two of 18 female student-athletes from around the league to earn a GPA of 4.0 or higher. An incredible 19 of Lehigh’s 28 women’s honor roll selections earned a 3.5 or better.
An economics major, Tedrick led the Lehigh men in the spring with his 4.0 GPA, one of 14 Patriot League men to meet or eclipse the 4.0 mark. Junior Stephen Abate was next for the Mountain Hawk men with a 3.90 in electrical engineering. A total of 20 Lehigh men were named to the honor roll with 14 topping the 3.50 mark.

In all 372 student-athletes, 195 women and 177 men were named to the honor roll. Earlier this year the league announced its track and field Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Colgate’s Elise DeRoo and Navy’s Mark Van Orden won the women’s and men’s awards respectively.
