Steimle honored by the Patriot League

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After competing in his first official collegiate meet on Saturday, freshman javelin thrower Kevin Steimle was honored by the Patriot League on Tuesday. Steimle was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week after finishing first in the javelin at the Winthrop Invite in Rock Hill, S.C.
Steimle had a throw of 200’ 2.0” to earn first place overall and edge out teammate James Pachucki who had a throw of 196’ 9.0”. With his impressive throw Steimle qualified for the IC4A Championship, which will take place on May 14 in Greensboro, N.C.
After the Winthrop Invite concluded Lehigh head track and field coach Matt Utesch offered his thoughts on Steimle. “Kevin was highly ranked in high school and we expected him to come right in and compete. He’s been chomping at the bit to throw and I’m not surprised at today’s results.”
The Mountain Hawks will be busy again this weekend as they travel to Princeton, N.J. for the Sam Howell Princeton Invitational on Friday and they will face their archrival Lafayette on Saturday in the outdoor dual meet.
