BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the first time this season two Lehigh track and field student-athletes were recognized by the Patriot League in the same week. Senior Ashlee Atwell was named the Female Field Athlete of the Week for the second straight time and freshman Alyssa Donahue was named Female Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.
The Mountain Hawks competed at the New York Armory in the 2010 New Balance Collegiate Invite against over 140 teams this past weekend. Several Lehigh track and field members got to battle it out with some of the top competitors in the nation.
Atwell finished seventh in the pole vault with a vault of 11’ 9.75” and tied her own Lehigh record which she set the previous week at the Lehigh-Lafayette Dual. With her record breaking vault she qualified for ECACs.
Donahue continued her strong rookie season by finishing 17th in the 500-meters with a career-best time of 1:18.82. Her time is the 10th fastest in the Patriot League this season and a few seconds off from qualifying for ECACs.
The Mountain Hawks will head back to the Armory this Saturday for the Armory Collegiate Series which is their final tune up before the 2010 Patriot League Indoor Championship on February 19-21.
