Lehigh men remain perfect with 196-94 win at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Lehigh men's swimming and diving team improved to 4-0 on the young season with a dominant 196-94 win over Colgate Saturday afternoon at Lineberry Natatorium. The Mountain Hawks won the first 14 events of the 16-event meet, with sophomores Frank Cuzzola, Tyler Lareau, Alex Aboud and juniors Kevin Shoemaker and Connor Styles all winning multiple events on the day.
The sophomore trio of Lareau, Aboud and Cuzzola teamed with junior Angelo DiGiacinto to win the opening 400 medley relay in 3:31.68.
Junior Chris Toth followed with a win in the 1000 free in 9:54.18 before Cuzzola won the first of his two events, the 200 free in 1:46.10. Senior Andrew DiPietro placed second to give Lehigh the top two spots. Cuzzola later won the 100 free in 47.37.
Lareau led a Lehigh sweep in the 100 back, winning the event in 53.34 seconds. Senior Billy Dunne and DiGiacinto captured spots two and three. Lareau added a win in the 500 free later in the meet, touching the wall in 4:45.19.
Aboud swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100 in 1:00.07 and the 200 in 2:13.63.
Shoemaker's big day included a win in the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.01 and then a win in the 100 fly in 52.16. DiGiacinto placed second in the 100 fly to give Lehigh the top two spots.
Other individual winners for Lehigh were freshman Chris Hoke, who took the 50 free in 21.75 and Dunne, who led a sweep in the 200 back with Toth and DiPietro. Dunne's winning time was 1:58.25.
Lehigh's three divers were unopposed on Saturday, but Styles outscored teammates Ryan Helfrich and Mike Harshman, winning the one meter with 213.82 points and the three meter with a score of 235.73.
The Mountain Hawks full squad will return to the pool next Saturday when they travel to Rider to face the Broncs at 1 p.m.
