Lehigh splits with Bucknell; clinches PLT berth

With the split Lehigh is now 27-16-1, 13-3 in the Patriot League, while Bucknell is now 15-29, 6-10 in league games. The Mountain Hawks still lead Colgate, which split its four game series at Army, by two games in the league standings with four league games remaining.
The Mountain Hawks pounded out 12 hits in the game one victory, and jumped on the Bison early on with three runs in the top of the first inning. Freshman Jen Colquhoun put Lehigh in front with a bases-loaded infield single and Alex Cueva followed with a single to right field that scored two runs.
Bucknell scored its lone run on a RBI triple by Kristin Frick, but Lehigh broke the game open with four runs in the third inning. Cueva picked up her second RBI of the day with a bases-loaded single to right field and Potock followed with a bases-clearing three-run double to put Lehigh up 7-1. The Mountain Hawks added three more runs in the fifth on a two-run triple by sophomore Mickey LaValley and a RBI single by senior Whitney Lowe.
In the pitcher’s circle senior Lisa Sweeney picked up her 17th win, allowing a run on three hits in five innings of work. Sweeney walked two and struck out six as she moves to 17-8 on the season. Katie McDonald took the loss for Bucknell allowing ten runs on 12 hits.
For the second straight day Bucknell bounced back in the nightcap, to earn a doubleheader split. Messersmith put the Bison ahead with an RBI single in the second inning, and Bucknell went up 2-0 on an unearned run when Elyse Colmenero drew a bases loaded walk.
Lehigh scored its lone run in the top of the fifth as senior Kristyn Kubiak scored an unearned run when freshman Julie Fernandez reached on an error. The Bison tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth, capitalizing on a Lehigh error for another unearned run.
Messersmith limited Lehigh to three singles, by Lowe, Fernandez and Colquhoun to pick up her seventh win of the season. Junior Tiffany Curtis took the loss for Lehigh allowing two runs in 2.1 innings before giving way to Sweeney.
The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to
