Lehigh picked fifth in preseason poll

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its indoor track and field preseason poll on Wednesday and the Mountain Hawks men’s and women’s were both picked to finish in fifth. Last year the men placed sixth of eight teams at the Patriot League Championship, and the women finished tied for fifth place. The men’s team returns 30 athletes from last year, including second team All-Patriot League performers E.J. Schuck and Kahlil Uqdah. The women’s team returns 35 athletes from last year’s squad.

Army and Navy tied for first in the men’s poll, with each team garnering 90 points. The Black Knights received 10 first-place votes, compared to just six for the Midshipmen. Bucknell was picked third with 70 points, followed by American with 64 points. Rounding out the men’s poll was Lafayette (43), Colgate (28) and Holy Cross (16).

On the women’s side, Bucknell was picked first with 92 total points and 10 first-place votes. Navy was a close second with 88 points and six first-place votes. The Black Knights were picked third with 76 points, followed by Lafayette with 61. Colgate (32), Holy Cross (32) and American (18) rounded out the poll for the women.

Lehigh hosts its season opener on Friday at 6 p.m. at Rauch Field House.
