Johnson places seventh at Junior Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Rising sophomore Franklin Johnson finished seventh in the triple jump this past weekend at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held at Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium. The Texas native more than held his own competing against athletes from schools such as Texas A&M, UCLA, and Stanford as he recorded a jump of 48’4”. The winning jump came from Zuheir Sharif of Texas A&M who posted a first-place leap of 52’0”.

Johnson put together quite an impressive freshman season for the Mountain Hawks in 2006-07 as he garnered All-Patriot League accolades after helping the 4x100-meter relay team to a second place finish at the league championships. Johnson also placed third in the long jump at the 2007 league championships and qualified for the ECAC outdoor championships in the triple jump. During indoor season, Johnson was named the Patriot League Field Performer of the Week on December 12.

This marks the second consecutive year that a Lehigh student-athlete competed at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships, as Garrett Zambrows ’09 raced in last year’s 800-meter run and placed fourth, earning himself a medal.
