The Athlete of the Year Award is presented to the team member who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishments of the team. For the second straight season, both Vaclav Malek and K.T. Hessler won this award. The pair of seniors, both captains this season, were All-Patriot League selections during the indoor season, while Malek also captured the honor during outdoor track. Malek and Hessler leave Lehigh with multiple All-League honors, All-Region berths and several school records between them.
The Scholar Athlete of the Year Award is presented to the student-athlete who in the eyes of his/her teammates exemplifies the ideal of the scholar-athlete. Seniors Laura Tom and Cody Smart were this years winners. Tom is a biochemistry major with a 3.83 grade point average, and is a multi-year member of the Dean’s List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. A political science major, who like Tom is a multi-year member of both the Dean’s List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Smart boasts a 3.62 GPA in the classroom.
Seniors Greg Bosch and Tracie Fails were honored as the Coaches Award winners. The Coaches Award is given to the individual who made significant contributions to the well-being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement or special leadership. Fails, a two-time captain, and Bosch, a Dean’s List student, have both improved in each of their four seasons in the Brown and White, while serving as great examples for their teammates.
