For the Lehigh men, senior captain Vaclav Malek returns to lead a talented group. Malek, who was named the Male Field Athlete of the Meet at last year’s Outdoor Championships and was also an NCAA qualifier, will look to build upon those accomplishments in this, his final outdoor season. Other Mountain Hawks to keep an eye on are sophomore Waleed Amer and freshman Scott Robinson in the sprints, Brian and Kevin Ahearn in the mid-distance events, Rob Hampson and Victor Vientos in the distance events, and Craig Percopo in both the throws and the jumps.
On the women’s side, K.T. Hessler is a multi-year All-League selection, and is coming off of an indoor season in which she won gold at the Patriot League Championships in the pentathlon. The senior captain won both the high jump and the heptathlon at last year’s outdoor championships, while earning a berth in the ECAC Championships. Junior Nicole Montegary leads a strong contingent of runners in the sprint events, while Tracie Fails, Karen Welby, Jen Schappert, Carolyn House and Sarah Seiler possess a great amount of talent and experience for the mid-distance and distance events.
Lehigh opens its season on Friday, March 24 when the Mountain Hawks travel to Kutztown to compete in the Lehigh Valley Championships.
