Lehigh completes day one at championships

Easton, PA – After one day of competition at the 2005 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Lehigh women sit in fourth place with 15 points, while the Mountain Hawk men are currently in seventh place with four points. Bucknell leads the women’s competition with 77.33 points, followed by Navy with 39 and Army with 24. In fifth place is Lafayette with 12 points, while Holy Cross has 6.66 points, and Colgate and American are tied fir seventh place with six points each. On the men’s side, Army is in the lead with 64 point thus far, followed by Navy (44), American (24), Bucknell (22), Lafayette (17) and Colgate (10). Holy Cross is in eighth place with one point.

For the women, Jen Schappert won the 10,000-meter run with a time of 36:49.13, giving the Mountain Hawks ten team points, while Carolyn House came in fifth in the same race, picking up two points for Lehigh. Freshman Emily Roth picked up two points for the Brown and White with a fifth place finish in the pole vault, as she cleared 10’11”, breaking her school record from just a few weeks ago, and Lindsay Hinsch leaped her way to a sixth place finish in the long jump, recording a jump of 17’8”, good for one team point.

On the men’s side, senior Alex Hudgins placed fifth in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 31:06.03, good for two team points and the 4 x 800-meter relay team finished fifth in a time of 7:52.33, giving the Mountain Hawks two more points towards their total score.

The competition resumes on Saturday beginning at 9:00 am, and an awards ceremony will be held at the end of the day beginning at 6:45 pm.
