Mountain Hawks finish fourth at four-way shoot out

Ewing, NJ – Lehigh competed in the four-way shoot-out on Saturday afternoon on the campus of the College of New Jersey and both the Mountain Hawk men and women placed fourth.  The men scored 113 points, which placed them behind Monmouth (209 points), Rider (181) and the host College of New Jersey (169.50), while the women scored 144.50 points, and finished behind Monmouth (209), the College of the New Jersey (177) and Rider 169.50).

 

In the women’s competition, Kim Rhodes picked up one team point for placing fourth in the 200-meter run with a time of 26.74 seconds, while Rhodes, Laura Tom and Lindsay Hinsch scored four, three and two team points respectively in the 100-meter dash.  Tracie Fails scored six points with a third place finish in the 800-meter run, as she crossed in a time of 2:18.63, and teammate Liz Haight scored one point as she finished eighth in a time of 2:22.09.  Jen Schappert took first place overall in the 1500-meter run, scoring the Mountain Hawks nine points, as she crossed the finish line in a time of 4:44.62 and teammate Karen Welby finished second in a time of 4:51.43, scoring seven points. 

 

In the 5000-meter run, Sarah Seiler took second place, good for seven points, in a time of 18:00.15, while Alison Sanchez finished fifth and Kirsten Wert sixth in the same race, giving Lehigh four and three team points respectively.  Senior Khayla Lowe won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of `5.87 seconds, while K.T. Hessler crossed in a time of 16.38 seconds, good for fifth place.  Andrea Luebbe won the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11:22.06, which gave the Brown and White nine more team points, while Hessler won the high jump with a leap of 5’3”, and Lauren Edwards came in a tie for second, clearing 5’1”.  In the pole vault, Nicole Fatigati took first place, clearing 10’6”, and Emily Roth was second clearing 11’0”.  Hinsch placed fourth, Nicole Montegary seventh and Fatigati eighth in the long jump, while in the triple jump Lowe took fifth and Hinsch sixth. 

 

Alyssa Koob placed sixth in the discus throw, with a toss of 109’6” and Kristi Spittle took fourth in the hammer throw, recording a toss of 138’4”. 

 

On the men’s side, Lavar Pope came in sixth place in the 100-meter dash, with a time of 11.35 seconds, scoring Lehigh three team points, while David Falk added two team points in the 200-meter run, with a time of 22.69 seconds.  Brian Ahearn captured third place honors in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.56, while Kyle Manning placed eighth in the same event with a time of 2:00.29.  Rob Hampson won the 1500-meter run, finishing in a time of 3:55.46, good for nine points, and Victor Vientos (5), Sean Swift (6), and Alex Hudgins (7) were right on his tail, all scoring points for the Mountain Hawks. 

 

Sam Kirk crossed the finish line in a time of 15:57.33 in the 5000-meter run, scoring three points, and Vacalv Malek scored five points, as he finished the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.64 seconds.  John Heim scored one point as he finished the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 16.19 seconds.  Heim then crossed the finish line in a time of 56.23 seconds, good for four team points and a fifth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, while David Little was seventh, scoring two points in the same competition.  Brendan Glover and Joe Kelly finished one-two in the 3000-meter steeplechase, while Patrick Holmes was fourth in that same event. 

 

Malek won the high jump, clearing 6’6”, and Greg Bosch scored two points, for his seventh place finish in the pole vault.  Malek added three more points in the long jump, with a leap of 20’7”, while Matthew Kostyal finished seventh in the discuss with a toss of 127’9” and Nick Maiorino took second in the hammer throw, recording a throw of 150’9”.

Lehigh returns to action on April 28, when the Mountain Hawks travel to Philadelphia to compete in the historic Penn Relays, which run through April 30.
