Lehigh placed seven athletes on the 2004 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Teams as announced by the league on Thursday. The Mountain Hawks just returned from the Patriot League Championships where the men came in fifth place and the women garnered a fourth place finish. Leading the way on the All-Patriot League teams were the Navy men with 15 representatives and the Army women with ten selections.
For Lehigh, senior George Evans was the lone male on the First-Team, as he was selected for the third time in his career. Evans broke the school and indoor championships record in the 60-meter dash at the league championships with a time of 6.86, good for first place overall. Other men named to the team were sophomore Vaclav Malek who broke the school record in the high jump on two separate occasions this season and came in second place in the heptathlon at the indoor championships.
Senior Francis Vincent was also named to the team after coming in second in the triple jump at the championships. Vincent placed in the top-ten in every meet in the long jump this past season for the Mountain Hawks and will look to build on that momentum in the spring, as he looks to repeat as Field Athlete of the Meet, as he was named last season at the Outdoor Championships. Freshman Victor Vientos continued his stellar freshman campaign for the Mountain Hawks as he came in second place in the 3,000-meter run at the indoor championships, on his way to garnering second-team all-league honors. Vientos had an outstanding cross country season and has carried that over to the indoor season. He will be relied upon heavily in the outdoor season in the distance events for Lehigh.
On the women’s side, sophomore Katharine Hessler was named to the First-Team after leaping her way to a first place finish in the high jump at the championships. Hessler continues to improve in this event and will only get stronger in the outdoor season. First-place pentathlon finisher Khyala Lowe was also named to the First-Team for her efforts, as the junior led Lehigh to a lead of the championships after the first day, due in large part to her performance.
The lone Second-Team female performer for the Mountain Hawks was junior Lindsay Hinsch, who was named to the team for the second time in her career. She leaped to a second place finish in the long jump at the indoor championships and has been named Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week once already this season.
