Newark, DE – Lehigh brought several of its team members to the Thomson Invitational this weekend to prepare for next week’s big event, the National Collegiate Invitational in New York. Those who did participate this weekend got themselves a good tune up. Both the men’s and the women’s races were unscored, but it was still a chance to work on certain techniques and strategies.
On the women’s side, the Distance Medley team came in first place with a time of 12:31.66 as they defeated the likes of Furman, the Citadel and the host Blue Hens of Delaware. In the 3000 meter run, Jenna Breidinger crossed the finish line in a time of 10:50.27 good for fifth place, one spot ahead of teammate Carolyn House who finished in sixth place. Olivia Basu and Jill Koste came in 11th and 12th place respectively in that same race. The top individual finish on the female side for Lehigh was Kirsten Wert, who crossed the finish line in a time of 19:35.36 in the 5000-meter run, good for third place.
On the men’s side, the Distance Medley team equaled the effort of the women and took home the crown in a time of 10:39.84. In the 5000-meter run, junior captain Alex Hudgins was the top Mountain Hawk finisher, in third place with a time of 15:31.36. Tyler Spencer joined him in fourth with a time of 15:39.14, and Brendan Glover (8) and Pat Boyle (9). Luke Clay registered an eighth place finish in the 3000-meter run, as he crossed in a time of 9:10.65 and Michael Marty posted a top-ten finish as well.
Lehigh returns to action on February 13, at the National Collegiate Invitational in New York.
