Lehigh's Barrett qualifies for NCAA championships

Fairfax, VA – Freshman Lauren Barrett set a new personal best in the javelin at the inaugural NCAA Track & Field East Regional at George Mason University on Friday. Her throw of 47.82 meters (156’ 11") marked a new personal record by over 13 feet, placing her fourth overall and qualifying Barrett to represent Lehigh in the javelin at the NCAA Track & Field championships in Sacramento. Several of Barrett’s teammates also competed in the East Regional. Senior Justina Barone posted a top 20 finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of just over a minute (1:00.63). Barone also finished 30th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.83 seconds. Fellow senior Yasmine Deliz wrapped up her Lehigh career with a pair of top 25 finishes. Deliz placed 19th in the shot put with a heave of 13.85 meters (45’ 5"), and 23rd in the javelin with a throw of 38.86 meters (127’ 6"). In the 3000 meter steeplechase, senior Edann Brady placed 19th with a time of 11:02.18. On the men’s side, a pair of Mountain Hawks placed in the top 20 in Fairfax. Junior Francis Vincent finished 16th in the triple jump with a time of 14.86 seconds. In the javelin, senior Patrick Dugan closes out his career with a throw of 63.03 meters (206’ 9"). The five points earned by Barrett gave Lehigh a 26th place overall finish on the women’s side at the East Regional, out of the 47 teams scoring points.
