Lehigh duo honored for academics by USTFCCCA

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Recent Lehigh graduate Sarah Serwo and rising junior James Pachucki have been named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic team, which was announced on Tuesday. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field team, a student-athlete must obtain a grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.
An accounting major, with a 3.70 GPA in the spring semester, Serwo has been a multi-year member of both the Dean’s List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. On the track, Serwo owns five school records including the indoor and outdoor 800 meters, where she won Patriot League titles in 2008. This past season, Serwo captured the 1,000 meters at the Patriot League indoor championships, and qualified for the NCAA East Regional outdoors in the 800, breaking her own school record several times along the way.
Pachucki posted a 3.38 GPA this past spring and is majoring in industrial engineering. He was also named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Pachucki has qualified for the NCAA East Regional in the javelin in each of the last two seasons, placing 14th in this year’s meet with a throw of 199’4”. He added a third place finish in the ECAC/IC4A Championships in May.
A total of 531 student-athletes, representing 146 Division I institutions comprised the women’s 2009 All-Academic Team. Serwo was one of four Patriot League student-athletes to be honored, joining three women from Bucknell. On the men’s side 327 student-athletes from 107 institutions were recognized, with Pachucki being one of seven from the Patriot League named to the squad.
