Mountain Hawks open action at PL Championship

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Lehigh opened competition at the 2009 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of the United States Military Academy on Friday and both genders currently sit in fifth place. Bucknell leads the women’s side of things with 40 points, followed by Lafayette, Holy Cross, Army, the Mountain Hawks, Navy, Colgate and American. Host Army leads on the men’s side with 38 points and the Black Knights are followed by Navy, Bucknell, Lafayette, the Brown and White, Holy Cross, American and Colgate. Senior E.J. Schuck is leading the decathlon for Lehigh with 3,588 points, with Catherine Bigelow sitting in second place in the heptathlon with 2,560 points.
On the women’s side, the 4x800 relay team of Alex Neville, Shannon Alejandro, Jen Therkorn and Sarah Serwo earned Lehigh eight team points with a second place finish, as they crossed in 8:56.28, while Charrell Mack also scored eight points as she finished second in the long jump with a leap of 17’4 1/4." Mack’s classmate Emily Settle added another second place finish, this one in the hammer, after she registered a throw of 168’3.”
Senior Lindsey Corbetta ran the sixth fastest time in the opening heats of the 100 as she crossed in 12.84 seconds, and she then ran the seventh fastest time in the 200 with a time of 25.78
Khalil Uqdah picked up eight points for the Mountain Hawk men as he placed second in the pole vault, clearing 14’9,” and teammate Dominic Aversa finished fifth in the same event for two more Lehigh points.
Dan DeWitt and Evans Kosgei crossed in seventh and eighth place, respectively, in the 10,000, while senior Scott Robinson finished the 110-meter hurdles in 15.25 seconds, which was the fourth fastest time of the afternoon’s heats. Schuck added four more points to LU’s total with a fourth place finish in the long jump with a mark of 21’11 1/2".
The final day of competition gets underway at 9:00 on Saturday morning.
