BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh finished up a busy weekend on Saturday at the Greyhound Invitational, held on the campus of Moravian College, as the Mountain Hawks put forth numerous impressive performances. On the women’s side, Lauren Sternick won the 800 in a time of 2:17.48, with teammate Shannon Alejandro right on her heels, placing second in a time of 2:18.96 and Jen Filiberto won the 5000 with a time of 18:57.90. In the men’s events, Franklin Johnson won the triple jump with a leap of 47’5”, Carl Leunig crossed first in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:00.24, and Scott Robinson raced his way to a first place finish in the 400 hurdles, crossing in 53.14 seconds.
In the women’s field events, Emily Settle placed second in the hammer, with a throw of 163’8”, which broke the old meet record, while Rebecca Graziano placed seventh in the same event with a toss of 136’1”. Settle then placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 36’5”, with Graziano not far behind in eleventh place as she threw 35’8”.
Ashlee Atwell (11’0”) and Krista Belick (10’6”) finished five-six in the pole vault, while in the long jump, senior Lindsey Corbetta placed seventh with a leap of 17’3”, Charrell Mack finished 13th after jumping 16’8” and Catherine Bigelow jumped 16’7” to place 15th. Bigelow also competed in the high jump where she cleared 5’1”, good for fourth place, with Abigail Shea-Harris clearing 4’11” in the same event to place eighth.
In the track events Megan Hetzel (11:59.01) and Kathleen McClernand (12:15.92) finished in third and fourth place, respectively in the 3000-meter steeplechase, and the 4x100 relay team of Corbetta, Allison Grese, Alexandra Doersam and Latasha Watson raced their way to a third place finish with a time of 48.17. Corbetta also competed in the 100 where she crossed in 12.84 seconds to place eighth, while Doersam (17), Mack (24) and Cassandra Hartnett (25) all finished in the top-25. Corbetta then went onto place sixth in the 200 with a time of 25.87.
In the 800, in addition to Sternack and Alejandro’s impressive performances, Jillian Randolph crossed in seventh place, Andrea Mascaro finished ninth, Kim Scotto placed 13th, Elizabeth Robinson took 16th and Catherine Tobiasen raced her way to a 23rd place showing. In the 400 hurdles Lauranne Kline finished in 11th place and Theresa Fromm crossed in 13th place, while Hana Baskin (fifth) and Kristin Kenny (sixth) both had top-ten finishes in the 5K.
Three Mountain Hawks placed in the top-ten of the 1500, as Scotto (third), Robinson (fourth) and Jen Curran (seventh) all had solid showings, while Tobiasen finished 13th in the same event.
On the men’s side in the track events, Ben Lampi finished the 1500 in a time of 4:04.17, which placed him in tenth, while Chris Contino crossed in 4:05.65, good for 13th place. Scott Robinson took second in the 400 as he crossed in 48.72 seconds, while Ifeanyi Edochie crossed in 50.30 and placed 13th. Edochie also finished 13th in the 200 with a time of 22.82.
Matt Foley finished eighth in the 800 with a time of 1:56.51, while Andrew Jervis crossed in third place in the 5000 with a time of 15:34.80. Matt Hilderbrandt also competed in the 5000 and finished in seventh place with a time of 16:21.70.
In the hammer throw, Tim Dempsey finished 18th after a toss of 134’4”, while Dominic Aversa placed third in the pole vault after clearing 13’11”. Dempsey went onto place 14th in the discus with a toss of 128’11”.
In the long jump Alex Maurer finished sixth with a leap of 21’8”, Stephen Tutunjian placed seventh after jumping 21’6” and Kyle Forrest finished 12th with a jump of 20’4”. Forrest also placed fifth in the high jump with a 5’10” showing.
In the shot put Nick Ray checked in at number five with his throw of 51’7”, and teammate James Pachucki threw the javelin 184’1”, which placed the sophomore in sixth place. Tutunjian placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 45’6” and Alex Maurer finished second in the high jump with a leap of 6’2”.
Lehigh will be back in action on Thursday, April 23 as a select group of Mountain Hawks make their way to Philadelphia to compete in the historic Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
