9/16/2003 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
Following a 60-56 win over Bucknell on Wednesday, the Lehigh men’s basketball team is beginning to make believers out of its fans. The never say die attitude of head coach Billy Taylor, his staff, and his student-athletes allowed for the amazing come from behind victory. With the win the Mountain Hawks improves to 10-5 overall, 2-0 in the league, while Bucknell fell to 7-7 overall, 1-1 in the league. Lehigh trailed 32-20 at halftime and shot only 34% from the floor in the first half, however, in the second half, the Mountain Hawks came out on fire. Matt Logie netted 18 second half points, including a long three pointer and freshman Chris Stephenson managed a career high five points, including a clutch three point shot in the last moments of the contest. Zlatko Savovic managed double figures for Lehigh, netting 18 points, while also leading the team with eight rebounds and six assists. American enters Stabler Arena on an up beat note. The Eagles are fresh off a 70-53 victory over Navy, a team that Lehigh recently defeated. The Eagles led by six points and halftime, only to pull away in the second half, outscoring the Midshipmen 40-29 in the final 20 minutes. The leading scorer for the Eagles was Glenn Stokes. Stokes posted 24 points in 33 minutes of action, while teammate Steven Miles tallied 14 points. American and Lehigh do not have a rich history. In fact the two teams have met only 15 times, including the initial meeting in the 1960-61 season. American holds a 12-3 series record, including three wins over Lehigh last season.
