Mountain Hawks open postseason play at Army

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh opens play in the 2009 Patriot League Tournament on Wednesday evening as the fifth seeded Mountain Hawks travel to West Point to take on the No. 4 seed Army Black Knights. This marks the third consecutive season these two teams have met in the quarterfinal round of the PL Tournament with Army having won the previous two at Stabler Arena. Lehigh finished the regular season on a three-game losing skid including a 64-49 setback at Holy Cross on Saturday in Worcester. Two Mountain Hawks scored in double figures, including Rob Keefer (13) and Zahir Carrington (10), but Lehigh was once again plagued by cold shooting. Army closed the regular season on a high note, downing Bucknell in Lewisburg by a score of 70-53 behind Julian Simmons’ career-best 21 points.
In eight career games versus Army, Marquis Hall has had his way with the Black Knights, averaging 17.0 points per game. He has scored 20 or more points in four of those games, including in both meetings earlier this season.
In its two meetings with Army in the PLT Lehigh has shot a combined 3-of-27 from three -point range (11%) and 39-of-109 overall (35.7%). Lehigh has not shot above 48-percent in any of the four halves or one overtime period during that time.
Wednesday’s game will tip-off at 7:00 from Christl Arena in West Point. The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 AM as well as Lehighsports.com. Pre-game coverage gets underway at 6:30.
