Pair of Mountain Hawks earn All-League accolades

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior captains Marquis Hall and Zahir Carrington were named to the 2009 All-Patriot League Teams, it was announced on Monday on the Patriot League teleconference. Hall earned a spot on the First-Team while Carrington garnered Second-Team accolades. This marks the third consecutive season that Hall has earned All-League honors after being named to the All-Rookie Team as a freshman and to the Second-Team a season ago. He is just the sixth men’s basketball player in school annals to earn First-Team honors. For Carrington this is his second All-League honor after he joined Hall on the All-Rookie Team as a freshman.
Hall led Lehigh in scoring this season at 14.1 points per game to go along with a team-leading 4.0 assists and 5.1 rebounds. The Oregon native ranks fourth in the Patriot League in scoring, third in assists and steals and fifth in made three-pointers. He has led Lehigh in scoring 13 times and in assists 19 times this season, and netted the 1,000th point of his career versus archrival Lafayette in late January. Hall’s best game of the season came when Lehigh defeated Rutgers in November as he totaled a season-high 28 points and a career-best 15 boards in leading the Mountain Hawks over a Big East school for the first time since the inception of Patriot League play.
Hall enters this week’s Patriot League Tournament with 1,141 career points, which is 17th in school history, while his 374 assists rank 13th in Patriot League history.
Carrington established himself as one of the best low post players in the entire Patriot League this season. The 6-7 forward averaged 14.0 points and a league leading 8.4 rebounds this season, while shooting 44-percent from the field, which is 11th in the Patriot League. Carrington was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on two occasions this season and led the Mountain Hawks in scoring 11 times and in rebounding 17 times. The native of Philadelphia pulled down ten or more rebounds in 12 games, including a career-high of 15 versus Longwood and he registered nine double-doubles.
Carrington has scored 913 points during his time in the Brown and White and ripped down 457 rebounds.
Lehigh opens play in the 2009 Patriot League Tournament on Wednesday evening when the No. 5 Mountain Hawks travel to West Point, New York to take on the fourth seeded Army Black Knights at Christl Arena. Tip-off is set for 7:00 and all of the action will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 AM as well as Lehighsports.com. Pre-game coverage gets underway at 6:30.
