Seniors look to stay perfect at home vs. Lafayette

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh closes out its regular season home schedule on Sunday afternoon as the Mountain Hawks welcome archrival Lafayette to Stabler Arena on Senior Day. Lehigh earned a pivotal 49-40 victory over Colgate on Wednesday evening at home as the Mountain Hawks limited the Raiders to a total of 17 points on 20-percent shooting in the second half. Marquis Hall led the Brown and White with 16 points while the LU bench outscored the visitors 17-3. Lehigh will honor its three seniors, Phil Anderson, John Gourlay and Matt Szalachowski prior to Sunday’s contest. Lafayette enters this weekend on a high note after defeating Bucknell on Wednesday by a score of 71-68 in Easton. Freshman Ryan Willen led the Leopards with a career-best 20 points.
Lehigh honors its senior class of Phil Anderson, John Gourlay, and Matt Szalachowski Sunday on Senior Day. Together that trio has appeared in 283 games, scored over 800 points and grabbed over 550 rebounds. During their time together on South Mountain, Lehigh has posted an overall record of 60-56, including 19 wins during their freshman year, which is tied for the third most in school history. That class has gone 5-2 versus Lafayette during their careers, including a perfect 3-0 mark at home heading into this weekend’s action.
Lehigh and Lafayette have already met 14 times this academic year with the Mountain Hawks dominating the series with an 11-2-1 lead. Lehigh has defeated its archrival in men’s cross country, women’s cross country, women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s swimming, women’s swimming, football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s indoor track and women’s indoor track. Men’s soccer played to a 2-2 draw, while field hockey and volleyball suffered losses.
Lehigh’s bench had been averaging 10.3 points per game in league play prior to Wednesday’s win when it exploded for 17 points. Colgate’s reserves scored just three tallies.
